Will's Cousin is the only song the LeVar BurTones still play from their 2Zoo era (bits of "Make Room For Buddy" made it into "No Eyes", but that doesn't count :P ) Misunderstood classic, or lingering relic?

Personally, I'd like to see a reworked version of "Conkey Ave", but that's because I'm insane, obviously.

They told me the story last year. I know the street, that's why I have a soft spot for that song.

An era has ended - the BurTones retired "Will's Cousin" at Water Street on Friday.

But fret not! They also debuted not one but TWO new songs that night.

Things change, but this train's not stopping any time soon.

I've only heard that song played twice, but it's been enjoyable both times.

The new songs were great! Especially the instrumental, you barely hear those anymore other than for intros.

Instrumentals are more common in traditional ska, I've noticed. (My favorite Slackers tune is an instrumental.)

Not that they're unheard of in third-wave and ska-punk - Op Ivy's "Bankshot" springs to mind (why doesn't anybody cover that song?)

Back when you posted that I didn't know "bankshot" but just recently I had this melody stuck in my head and couldn't figure out what it was from. After a few days of humming it I remembered what it was and uncovered my Operation Ivy cd I haven't seen in a while and re-discovered "bankshot". That's now my favorite song on that cd.

I really like that surf/ska sound (I don't know if other people consider it that, but I do) but theres not a whole lot of music that I've ehard that matches that sound too well.

Have you ever heard the Basic Radio demos? It was Matt Freemans and Tim Armstrongs band just before Operation Ivy started.

Yeah, I'd say "Bankshot" has a surf feel to it.

That's the first I've heard of Basic Radio. Any idea where I'd find that demo?

go to operationivy.com and go to downloads. It should be at the very bottom, if not I can send them to you.
